Second prize for Volksschule Hof bei Salzburg

Our proposal GROSS UND KLEIN for the new primary school in Hof bei Salzburg received second prize in the open architectural competition.

School and kindergarten are organised as two buildings facing one another across a green courtyard. Their different scales give each part its own identity while creating a shared centre for learning and everyday life.

Inside, classrooms are grouped into smaller learning clusters, with shared spaces and terraces extending teaching beyond the classroom.

The kindergarten roof becomes a protected outdoor playground, giving back the ground occupied by the building one floor higher.

A school big enough for everyone, and small enough to belong.
