First Prize for Gratwein am Grünanger

SUPERARCHITEKTUR won first prize in the invited competition for the residential development Gratwein am Grünanger in 2018.

The winning proposal by Ana Očić and Martin Brischnik organised the site as a loose ensemble of seven buildings around a shared green landscape. Rather than treating the open space as what remains between buildings, the project made it the spatial and social centre of the neighbourhood.

Different building types and heights create a varied residential environment while keeping the overall structure compact and economical. Generous balconies, shared outdoor areas and individual gardens extend everyday life beyond the apartments.

The competition marked the beginning of a project that was completed in 2023 and later recognised with the Auszeichnung beispielhafter Wohnbau 2024, the Holzbaupreis Steiermark 2025, publication in Best of Austria 2024–2025 and a nomination for the Österreichischer Staatspreis Holzbau 2026.
