First prize for Wohnanlage Stainz
48 Subsidised Apartments · Invited Competition · 1st Prize · 2015
The competition proposal for Wohnanlage Stainz received first prize in the invited competition in 2015.
The project combines efficient housing typologies with generous shared spaces. Compact, barrier-free apartments are oriented towards two or three sides, bringing daylight and cross-ventilation into the homes while keeping circulation to a minimum.
External access galleries are conceived as more than circulation. Sheltered by full-height larch slats, they become shared spaces between the apartment and the neighbourhood, providing privacy, shade and places for informal encounter.
The winning project was subsequently realised in phases, providing 48 subsidised apartments in Stainz, and completed in 2020.
